Sophomores, after two years of homework, tests, finals and sleepless nights, graduation is right around the corner.

Sophomore Send-Off

As soon as May 1 hits, the celebrations begin with Allen’s first annual Sophomore Send-Off.

From 5:30 to 8 p.m. the block party will take place outside of the Student Center. A barbecue will be catered by Great Western Dining, and there will also be inflatables, volleyball, yard games and free shirts.

Following the block party, the school dance will begin at 9 and end at 11:30 p.m.. All students are encouraged to come celebrate the approach of summer and help “send off” the graduates into their bright futures!

Spring Student Music Recital

The Spring Student Music Recital begins at 7 p.m. on May 2. The recital will feature students who have taken private vocal or instrumental lessons with their instructor over the spring semester. It is a free event in the music room at Allen’s Iola campus and an opportunity to see how much individual musicians have grown throughout the year.

ACE Awards

May 3 continues the festivities with the annual ACE (Allen County Excellence) Awards at 6:30 p.m. The ACE Awards involve students that participate in art, journalism/communications, theatre and music at Allen. It is free to each student invited with a $12 fee to guests. Dinner will be served and students will be honored for their hard work in their classes.

Graduation

Last but not least: GRADUATION.

Caps and gowns are available for pickup in the Allen or Burlingame bookstores. If students are unable to pick up their cap and gown, they need to call (620) 901-6296 and have it mailed for an $8 fee.

Graduates will line up according to their major in the fishpond at the Iola Campus at 9:45 a.m. May 4.

Graduation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will last approximately one hour.

Although graduates will not receive their official diplomas until they are mailed in June, they are handed a diploma cover at the ceremony.

Any questions regarding graduation can be answered by registrar Bobbie Haviland, (620) 901-6291 or [email protected].

Finals

The celebrations will soon be over with finals starting on May 6 and ending May 10.
