The Allen Community College Theatre Department will be performing their fall musical “She Loves Me” Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 12-14, at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for students, and Allen students get in free with a valid student ID. Tickets are available for sale now at Iola Pharmacy or at the Bowlus upon entry.

Director Tony Piazza has run over 50 shows since he began working at the college in 1999.

“It’s a small theater situation, so I wear a lot of hats,” said Piazza when asked about the challenges of directing. Some of his duties include set design, props, publicity, and of course directing the actors. However, it is all worth it to see a project come to completion said Piazza.

Piazza selected “She Loves Me” (a show he performed in high school) because he knew he had the cast to fulfill the lead roles.

Kate Terhune, 20, plays leading lady Amalia Balash. Terhune started acting at the age of 9 and has performed in approximately 30 shows. However, she has participated in five productions at the college.

Terhune has worked with Piazza  for several years while participating in summer theater camps. According to Terhune, this is her first major lead role although she has enjoyed playing strong supporting roles in the past.

“When you walk into the world of theater, you learn very quickly that even though you may be able to play a part well, the director might have a better fit for you in that specific play… I can say that I am very happy with Amalia (as my role),” said Terhune.

“It’s a very charming show,” said Piazza. “I like directing shows that focus on acting. It’s a musical, but it’s based on a play. It’s very much a piece for actors and it tells a great story.”
