Many people think that Cheer is not a sport, but that is not true. Cheer is not only a sport, but it is also a challenge of your strength and stamina. One example of that is cheer competitions. The difference between competition and cheering on the sideline is, when a person is on the sideline, they do a couple of cheers and stunts and get a break in between, but when a person goes to a competition, they are doing a whole routine for three plus minutes with no break. That includes dancing, lifting flyers into the air, and tumbling.
This year the Red Devil Spirit Program of Allen Community College competed in Tulsa Oklahoma at the Stage One competition. They were there for three days and not only cheered but danced too. For some of the girls, this was their first time competing but for some this was not something new.
When asking Vivian Noah, the only returner on the team this year, what are you most excited for this year she responded with, “The thing I’m most excited about is going to my final competition with my girls. It has been a hard year with a lot of bumps in the road, but we have come together as one and really become the team I’ve always wanted to have.”.
Placing in competition depends on age group and skill level. This year’s team competed very well, not only in cheer but in dance too. As a team, they placed first in the cheer category and some of the dancers placed individually and as a team.
