As long as newspapers have been around serving communities, not many have been around as long as the Iola Register.

The local newspaper has been serving and informing its readers for 150 years. That’s why Allen Community College will commemorate the Register’s sesquicentennial year on Sept. 27 at 1:30 p.m. in the Allen Library.

The Kansas Press Association will present a program about community journalism and how the value of the Iola Register fits in with today’s media atmosphere. Allen President John Masterson will make remarks, and Register publisher Susan Lynn will discuss a local history book she put out this summer.

All students, faculty, staff, and members of the community are invited to this special event. Refreshments will be served afterward.
