On the evening of Thursday, March 21, Allen Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter inducted new members into its program. The induction ceremony took place at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center in Iola, Kansas.
Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society for students with academic success. Allen’s chapter, the Tau Eta Chapter, invites current students that have passed at least 12 credit hours and have a 3.5 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale.
The ceremony was held at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center and new inductees, faculty, friends, and family were in attendance. The guest speakers for the ceremony included current president of Allen Community College, Dr. Bruce Moses, Allen’s Dean of Academics, Melanie Wallace, members of Phi Theta Kappa like Laney Covey and Wisdom Nkwamba, and the keynote speaker Dr. Kara Wheeler, Vice President of Academics at Allen Community College.
After the guest speakers were done, the ceremony was wrapped up by Melanie Wallace as she lead inductees through the Phi Theta Kappa pledge. Inductees names were then called off and each one signed their names into the Phi Theta Kappa book. They then received a white rose, representing purity and beauty of life, and a candle, symbolizing the member carrying the torch of knowledge.
Appetizers, desserts, and refreshments were enjoyed by all after the ceremony concluded.
