A new club has sprung into action this year. Now, at Allen County Community College, there is an LGBTQIA+ club. The club started as an idea that grew as more people started to be confident in who they are. Many people have already joined the club, and it is not too late to join.
The LGBTQIA+ Club was made possible through the efforts of Allen students and strives to educate and bring awareness to the community. The club not only focuses on the community of LGBTQ+ students but also the mental health and safety of every student on campus. The club meets every Friday during the school year.
The President of the club is Anabeth Ratzlaff, the Vice President of the club is Luka, the treasurer of the club is Mystic and the secretary of the club is Leon.
Though the club has just started they are making strides in their work and they have big plans for the future. The club wants to start fundraising so that they can put more effort in bringing awareness to different charities and different issues faced by people in the community
“Beginning this club here at Allen shows a new chapter [is] just starting, and I can’t wait to see it grow,” said President Ratzlaff.
The most important thing to the club and its members is to create a safe environment where people can just be who they are. Anyone who is a part of the LGBTQIA+ community is welcome, along with anyone who supports the community (referred to as Allies) can join as well. The club meets every Friday, during the school year, from 12-1pm in the Allen Theater building in room 110.
