Control Stress During Finals

Brayden Barnes, News Editor

With finals week here things could be getting stressful for some Allen Community College students. College life in general is stressful enough. When feeling buried in stress and anxiety, use some of these tools to cope.

Breathe

A tried and true stress release is to simply breathe. Take a deep breath in through the nose and exhale completely through the mouth. Focus on breathing and count 10 breaths.

Get good sleep but don’t overdo it

It’s important to get enough sleep at night but don’t sleep all day because it will leave waking hours for the work. Even if it’s only for the finals week get on a good schedule so that there is plenty of time in the day to be productive and unwind with some fun.

Be prepared

Taking a test or doing a large project may have a student worried and anxious, but when he or she doesn’t have the tools and information needed, it’s much worse. Make sure to have all the tools needed for a given exam. The information should have been reviewed recently so it’s fresh in one’s mind. With a recent review and the proper tools at hand, student will feel more confident and at ease.

Have fun

Don’t get too carried away. It’s finals week, but don’t neglect to have fun. It might be easy to forget to go hang out with friends or watch the new episode of a favorite show if all thoughts are on finals. A mixture of studiousness and recreation makes for a successful exam week.
